Home Again

Saxophone with mouthpiece and supply of reeds: $$$$ Weekly music lessons:$$ Enrollment at jazz camp: $$$ Earning the right to put a cool sticker on your saxophone case?  Priceless. Wasabi Girl is back from her jazz camp.  She had a fabulous time, learned a lot, and met some jazz legends.  Her session had 185 boys and 25 girls – who are all her new best friends. Jungle Boy got back late last night from his month at ABT.  I’m still getting the stories from him.  His camp had 220 girls and 9 boys.  How did this happen that both of my twins went to camps where they were a decided minority? Jungle Boy met a special girl – who lives halfway across the country.  He started drinking coffee to deal with all the early mornings and he decided that dorm food can’t hold a candle to home cooking.  Luckily for him there was a fresh batch of cookies waiting for him when he got home last night. Think of me today – it looks like I have a ton of laundry to get through.  It’s worth every bit of it to have everyone home again!

“Lang Mo” and “Children’s Paradise” at the Hong Kong Book Fair 2011

Hurried picture of the barricaded entrance to the HK Convention Center in Wan Chai – I later learn there were like, a thousand people queueing outside on the first day, hence the umpteen barricades and guards to sort out snaking … Continue reading →

House Full of People… No Where To Hide!

Last night, I went to sleep with a clean (enough) house, a good start on the huge pile of laundry that always sits in the laundry room floor, and visions of relaxing by the pool this weekend.  (Which I spent … Continue reading →

Blog Sale Coach Bleeker Leather and Vera Bradley Tic Tac Tote

I thought I would try to sell a few things using a blog sale format before I list on eBay. I got this purse at an estate sale and Ginger is helping me model it… From what I’ve found out it’s a BLEECKER LEATHER COACH PURSE Style #11419 and Retails $448.00  Details: Nice Coach quality  Black Leather with Flap Closure,  hidden Snap under Buckle (magnetic, it just catches closed), Large pocket on back. Interior has TATTERSAL fabric lining, Inside zip pocket w/coach creed & serial.  Interior Cell phone pocket & extra pocket. The hardware is polished brass.  The  strap drop about 14″ and it  measures approx.10″(W) x 10″(H) x 4″(D). All dimensions are approximation’s.   There is NO hangtag!   The   purse is great and I picked it up because I wanted to use it but it’s just too small for me, but it’s not a small bag – More medium I’d say and I love the strap drop.  It definitely was used a lot and the inside could use a cleaning, I tried to get pictures to show marks but they don’t show up; the inside doesn’t look new. The outside looks like a well loved bag too but in a good way, the way quality bags age….  If that makes sense.  This could be someone’s favorite bag forever – if it was only a few inches bigger it would be mine. I will send this to the US  for $75 (via paypal) with no extra shipping (I will ship to Canada but contact me about shipping) Contact me here if you’re interested and I’ll send an invoice and mark this taken. The next item is a Vera Bradley Large Tic Tac Tote in Green Cupcakes I love this, it’s huge and I used it a fair amount but it looks great.  They really hold up.  I went to the Vera site and they don’t seem to make these anymore?  Wow….  I have one in another color so I’m decluttering the purses a bit. Has one zip and two slip pocket inside with a tortoise toggle closure. It measures about15 1/4″ x 13 1/4″ x 4 3/4″, with a strap drop of 11 1/2″. I will send this to the US for $ 40 (via paypal) with no extra shipping. I will ship to Canada but contact me about shipping. Contact me  here  if you’re interested and I’ll send an invoice and mark this taken. I’ll be listing a small Dooney later.   Subscribe and don’t miss a crazy suburban word

If You’re Happy And You Know It

You know how sometimes you are just so happy and you want to shout it from the roof tops? 1. I’m happy that I’ve lost 2.5 pounds on the Paleo Plan (i don’t really want to call it a diet) since TUESDAY! 2. I’m happy with these delicious FALL scented candles that I bought at Bath & Body Works yesterday. The one called Leaves…heaven! 3. I’m happy that I cut the little tails on the front of my new hair cut off and now I’m more happy with my hair. 4. I’m happy that after eating a Paleo friendly meal at Chipotle last night…I walked around a lake with my family and we found two letterboxes. 5. Watching my husband pretend to be stealthy with the kids to put a letterbox back under a bridge was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen him do and it made me deliriously happy! Picture Austin Powers sneaking over to a bridge in the woods with two small children. 6. Keith and I watched No Strings Attached last night and it made me laugh and laugh! Laughing makes me so happy!

Why a Sox Fan would choose a Cubs Banner

There are some moments in life during which you have to rely on your mental camera. We went to Six Flags Great America yesterday. It was PERFECT. After an interminably long and humid week, Friday broke open with a monstrous thunderstorm. Since Friday was going to be our 3rd attempt at visiting Six Flags (the other two being a freezing rain day in June and that crazy power outage on the 11th) and our last opportunity to go with Patrick before all of our vacations and work trips began to dominate the calendar, we sucked it up, hopped into our van, and hoped for the best. And the Angels Sang and the Heavens opened up and, after an hour of driving in a mock-hurricane, the rain suddenly… ceased. And the sun slowly shone and the humidity didn’t overwhelm. And my family enjoyed the Best Day Ever at Six Flags. Being that we love to ride lots of rides, I don’t like to lug a camera around the park. We are empty-handed, big-pocketed people, walking with purpose to get onto as many rides as possible. Thanks to the crazy weather, the park was practically empty ALL DAY LONG. Any ride we wanted to get onto was less than 10 minutes, if not a walk-on situation! With the right shoes, Corinne is justbarely tall enough to ride the 48″ coasters. (At 5 years old, she’s well on her way to becoming fashion-model tall.) I wasn’t sure if she’d really want to go on everything she had been crossing her fingers over. I mean, The Eagle, The Viper, and other crazy rides are a little overwhelming for a little kid. Apparently, I forget who we were dealing with. Not only did she ride every single ride that she was “tall enough” for (good shoes!), but she rode them all several times! And by herself! And laughing the entire time. Click . Do you know how incredible it is to ride on a roller coaster, with your entire family? When the lap bars locked in place on the Eagle for Corinne’s first ride, I looked back at my sons, daughter and husband all eagerly waiting for an adrenaline rush. Patrick and I grinned like fools at each other and marked the occasion in our minds… Click . The courage was catching because Justin (our cautious and careful child) not only rode Batman for the first time, but rode it 4 times! He also surprised us with his willingness to watch his siblings while Pat and I enjoyed a few rides that they weren’t tall enough for. To see his personality and generosity slowly but surely maturing caused me many moments of pause and gratitude. Click . Still, the absolute best, 100% most AWESOME moment of the day was when Patrick finally won at the basketball game. You know the type of game: the announcer guy grills you and jokes around while you have to make a certain amount of shots with overly-inflated basketballs at the free throw circle line. My husband, on the 3rd attempt, earned enough points to take home a prize. His choices: a Sox banner or a Cubs banner. My husband, the ever-proud Sox Fan, pondered for a moment, looked at both, and glanced at Evan, his defiantly proud Cubs Fan son. He casually tossed a Cubs banner to Evan. Evan’s eyes were saucers of disbelief. ” Really , Daddy?” He hugged Patrick around the waist and cradled that banner in his arms for the rest of the night, repeatedly thanking his Daddy for picking it out, just for him . The Hundred Acre Woods

26 Days until Kindergarten Starts I decided to surprise the kids and take them to see a movie today.   We ate lunch and then drove to Belmar.  I parked in the parking garage so that they wouldn’t have a clue what I was up to. We walked into the theater and they saw all of the Harry Potter posters and were in awe.  I was able to sneakily tell the cashier what movie we wanted to see without them hearing me. I got them each a kids combo.  Popcorn, a disgusting piece of candy that is impossible to get the wrapper off from and a blue slurpee.   They thought I brought them to the theater for lunch and could not contain their happiness when I told them we were staying to see a movie. The preview were torture!  Each time one came on….they thought it was the movie.  They decided they really want to see the new Spy Kids Movie. Finally…the feature presentation came on and they were SO excited!

Le Bon Bistro in Paris

I count my time in Paris not by days but by meals. You would think that it would be pretty close to impossible to have a bad meal in Paris, but you would be wrong. Like anywhere, there are tourist trap restaurants that serve tough meat, old bread, and terrible food in general. Being with…
