Standing

When Cora died, I expected to be cut down to my knees. I thought I would crumble, and rise one day. I thought I would rebuild. I never fell. I stood. Tall and strong. I’m rebuilding in every moment. I sometimes rested in a curled up ball. I at times felt…

Movie Review: Project X

Spring break is decidedly around the corner. Why else would a film featuring entitled, booze-abusing, pill-popping teenagers appear at this time of year? Timing is everything, and Hollywood is right on cue with the upcoming release of Project X.    This latest portrayal of teenagers running amok is suitably produced by The Hangover director Todd

How well do you motivate your project team?

I visited a relative in hospital recently. Nothing too serious I am pleased to say. What struck me was the awful ward; huge ceilings, poor facilities and even worse; demotivated staff. Now I do not…

You cannot deliver this project early.

I had a meeting with Alan. Our conversation ranged from project management e-learning to sales and marketing activity alongside project management training and wider training issues. Alan has seen and done many things in his time and during discussion he stunned me. He told me the story of developing a stand alone e-learning project for an internal client. There was … Read More >

Be My Guest: Recipe For Health

I enjoyed having guest posters so much while I was away. I loved having the opportunity to get to know some of my readers a little bit better. Rather than turning down some of the amazing bloggers who offered to guest post, I thought that I’d turn this into a semi-regular feature. Today I’d like to …

Don’t Stress about Stress

Don’t Stress about Stress

Everyone has stress in their lives, whether it’s from school, family, friends, or work. Everyone deals with stress differently. Some deal with it in healthy ways, while others turn to drugs, choosing not to confront their issues head on. Drugs lead to stress as your body starts to feel the harmful effects. So, how can you deal with stress in healthy ways? Here are some suggestions for a more stress-free life: 1.  Take the stress out of stressful situations . Stress can pop up anywhere, but you can help make stressful situations more bearable. For example, if you have a test coming up, plan ahead and study for an hour every night of the week leading up to it instead of cramming the night before. 2.   Just breathe . If you find yourself in a stressful situation, take a moment, step away, and practice some breathing techniques. Try counting backwards from 10 while breathing slowly in and out. 3.  Exercise . Exercise is a great way to take your mind off your stress and reassess the situation. Not only will you refocus, but your body will release endorphins, which create a sense of pleasure throughout the body. 4.  Relax . Take some time out of your day and do something that relaxes you. You could read a while, watch your favorite show, listen to music, spend some time outdoors, whatever helps you unwind. 5.  Talk to family and friends . Getting advice from the people who care most about you can put stressful situations into perspective. Talk with family members or close friends when you’re feeling stressed out. Tell us: What are some ways that you de-stress?

Assignment 4: progress report

I might, ideally, have blogged my progress on the assignment bit by bit over the last few weeks but, frankly, I havn’t had the time – work + OCASA + trying to progress the assignment itself. The good news is that I am more or less there, with my 12 images chosen. They need a little more tweaking for …

Put yourself into 2nd position in your project

I often ask groups I am working with what’s it like putting yourself in 2nd position? Unsurprisingly, I get all sorts of strange looks and usually have to explain what I mean: Putting yourself in 2nd position is putting yourself into someone else’s shoes e.g. a project stakeholder –looking at the project from their point of view During a case … Read More >

Pledging

Pledging seems to be my theme of the last week. Last week, I pledged many things to myself. Personal pledges are always the most important due to their life changing abilities. I also honored many pledges that I made, no matter how much I really didn’t want to. However, I wasn’t excited to make any …
